Happy Sunday! If you follow me on social media, you probably know that Sunday afternoons are my absolute favorite time of the week! Being a mom is a “24/7/365 job”, with no paid vacation or sick leave. For working moms like myself, Monday-Friday is usually jammed packed with a billion tasks associated with both work and home.
Saturdays aren’t any easier, since this day is usually set aside for dance classes, errands, grocery shopping and cleaning; and in my household, Sunday mornings are reserved attending church and brunch immediately afterwards. So this leaves Sunday afternoons–a time for peace, relaxation, and preparation; or in other words, it is the golden hour for moms!
1.It’s probably the only downtime we have all week. By the time Sunday afternoon rows around, us moms usually have a few hours of downtime (if we’re lucky), as the kids are occupied and the household chores are complete. Of course I can’t speak for all moms, but those few hours I have to just breathe and relax, is what keeps my sanity in tact and allows me to push through the rest of the busy week. I usually spend some of that time reading, catching up on some of my favorite shows, or my favorite–napping!
2. It’s perfect for spending quality family time. During the week, work, chores, extra curricular activities and other commitments tend to take over our schedules and consume our lives. This is why it is important that families set aside a time to just spend together without any interruption from the outside world. Sunday afternoons are perfect for this! Whether it’s having a quiet family dinner, or going on a family outing to a local attraction, spending time together as a family is an essential part of maintaining a healthy and happy household. After all, who wouldn’t want to start their week off by spending time with the people you love the most?
3. It’s a great time to prepare for the week. Ok, so I know that this sounds like work, and quite frankly it is, but if you’re anything like me, getting organized and prepared for the rest of the week can make things a heck of a lot easier! After I put my kiddo to bed, I usually spend an hour or two, coordinating outfits for the week, preparing a dinner menu, packing lunches, etc. This helps to ensure that during the week, I don’t become overwhelmed and bogged down with more work than I can handle. I also tend to write out a to-do list (one for home and one for work). To-do lists help me to mentally prepare for everything I have to do that week. Getting in the right mindset can make a huge difference, and is an important part of maintaining mental health and overall self-care.
